Title:
A
Model for Intelligent Traffic Control
Abstract: Traffic
volumes are increasing in urban environments due to
a changing lifestyle amongst the general population, which in turn
leads to
traffic congestion. This paper presents a new approach to traffic
congestion
monitoring and management. The basic components of this system is a
vehicle
flow monitoring system strategically positioned at traffic junctions, a
GPS
enabled navigation device and an intelligent congestion advisory system
which
communicates with the driver over a GSM gadget such as a mobile phone. This system will be able to provide real-time
advice to the general commuter, road and network management authority,
which
will guide traffic police in terms of monitoring and recommendations
for
alternative routes. This paper discusses various aspects of an
intelligent system
for control and improved management of urban traffic.
