Title: Integrating Content Management and e-Learning
in Organizations with Dublin Core Metadata Specification
Abstract: Many organizations are loaded with digital
content consisting of documents, audio and video material. While digital
content is a valuable and efficient asset for supporting communication, business
operations and knowledge sharing, management of content while enabling learning
poses multiple challenges. There are a number of Learning Management Systems
(LMS) developed for e-Learning, supporting a varying scale of e-Learning
standards and specifications. E-Learning standardization aims for interoperability
and reusability of learning content as Learning Objects (LO), which may be
pieces of educational content such as documents or portions of them, audio
and video files, and simulations. For an organization willing to take advantage
of e-Learning the comparison, not to mention the implementation of a myriad
of LMS and e-Learning standards may require a massive effort. This paper
describes the e-Learning standards and proposes a simple point of departure
into e-Learning for organizations: the use of a content management system
with commonly-adopted Dublin Core metadata specification with e-Learning
extensions.
