Title: Trends and Challenges of
Industrial Services: An Empirical
Study
Abstract: Beside
industrial product and solution businesses industrial services become
increasingly important due to the need to reduce total cost of
ownership in plant business. To identify future trends, challenges and
success factors of industrial services, the authors conducted a
web-based survey and polled specialists regarding such services as well
as the corresponding information systems. The results corroborate that
well known trends like remote services, condition monitoring and
predictive maintenance will play an important role in the future. The
experts are aware of the increasingly important role information
systems will play in the future due to the technical nature of these
upcoming trends. The survey also shows that the experts are not very
satisfied with the support that information systems give them today and
prioritize formalized challenges in industrial service business, that
help information system suppliers to systematically innovate their
products.
