Web Sites
Abstract: Most of the web site now days
ignore
issues of content accessibility and universal design which cause the
people
especially with disability not being able to take the advantage of the
opportunities
afforded by the web. Against this background, this study was undertaken
with
the purpose of identifying the accessibility of e-government web sites
based
on the World Wide Web Consortium (WC3) accessibility and to evaluate
the
practice of e-government websites development and maintenance on
accessibility.
The result of the analysis indicated that there were no single
e-government
web sites that passed the WC3 Priority 1 accessibility checkpoints.
Upon
further investigation on webmasters knowledge and practices pertaining
to
accessibility issues unveiled that most webmasters did not fully adhere
to
the standard of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
