Title: An Exploratory Study of E-banking
in
Malaysia
Abstract: The introduction of ICT has
changed
the way the financial services industry conducts business. The
evolution
of electronic banking started from the use of automatic teller machines
(ATM)
to telephone banking, direct bill payment, electronic fund transfer and
the
revolutionary online banking. Although e-banking was introduced a
few
years back and with the sound IT infrastructure, technology and
international
links, the acceptance of e-banking in conducting banking transactions
by
the customers are still not very encouraging and is in a slow rate of
adoption.
Hence, a research of factors that influence the adoption of e-banking
will
surely make a contribution to the understanding of the e-banking status
in
the country. This study intends to identify the factors that
influence
the adoption of e-banking in Malaysia. Findings found that Malaysians
would
adopt e-banking provided that it is easier to use and the banking
service
providers guarantee the safety of transactions. Discussions and
implications
are further discussed to provide insights to Malaysian government and
people.
