Title: The Current
State of E-Commerce In Jordan: Applicability And Future Prospects
Abstract: This study
aimed at determining the current state of e-commerce in Jordan as well as
the future prospects through testing the effect of the presence of strong
technology and telecommunication infrastructure, institutional and governmental
support, organizational readiness and support, and community culture.
The population consisted of all Jordanian industrial, service and/or trade
companies that have a registered website which was (712) company. A questionnaire
was distributed to (118) Jordanian companies that were selected randomly using
Simple Random Sampling Method and (95) of those companies returned filled
in questionnaires. Cronbach alpha measure was used to test the reliability
of the questionnaire and it was found to be (0.80) reflecting the stability
and consistency of the scale and indicating the goodness of the measure.
Other statistical tests were used to test the research hypotheses and these
were: One-Sample t-test, Independent-Samples t-test, One-Way ANOVA, Chi-Square
and Bivariate Correlations (Pearson). The major findings of this research
indicated that Jordan has adequate and efficient e-commerce requirements
in general, but there is no suitable and appropriate Community Culture based
on sampled Jordanian companies’ in order to reach the E-commerce readiness
Stage. The major recommendations are that the Jordanian government must seriously
think and take the required steps towards changing the temporary e-commerce
law into a permanent one in order to encourage and give the companies the
feel that they are covered by law to encourage the use of this model of doing
business. In addition, extensive culture awareness programs are needed to
help establish, in public and private sectors, the need for information about
e-commerce and its benefits.
