Title: The Impact of Uplink Capacity to Cell
Coverage in WCDMA Mobile Internet
Abstract: This paper presents the impact of uplink
capacity to the cell coverage in an urban environment. Calculation
results are shown for the uplink of a typical cellular WCDMA system. Comparisons
are made regarding the data rates of 144 kbps and 384 kbps Internet (packet)
traffic. As expected, the results in this paper indicate that when the system
allows users utilize higher capacity, the cell coverage would be reduced.
Moreover, the impacts of the uplink capacity to the cell coverage in the
outdoor and in-car environments are more influence than those in the indoor
environment. The analysis is based on certain assumptions, chosen as realistic
as possible. The results described in this paper will be a valuable contribution
towards 3G mobile Internet system designs.
