Title:
Costs Analysis of the Internet Service over the Power Lines Communication
Systems in Thailand
Abstract: Providing affordable, reliable internet service over
power lines (IPL) is a promising new technology. This paper is to explore
the costs analysis of the internet service over the power lines communication
systems in Thailand. The cost model methodology in [1] is employed to analyze
two types of monthly IPL cost namely, monthly cost per home passed and monthly
cost per subscriber. As IPL technology is still in its early stage and there
are few market available products, the costs are estimated by assuming three
scenarios: best, worst and intermediate. The analyses advise that IPL can
be more cost-effective if the number of users increase. Additionally, under
the current situation in Thailand, IPL does not offer obvious benefit over
regular cable or DSL connection as a matter of fact that pricing for IPL
service is not competitive than other broadband internet services offering.
